MAKE IT A CASSETTE CHRISTMAS
Its a only few weeks until Christmas Day 2018 and as much as you might think the audio cassette tape world starts to wind down (excuse the pun), its actually one of the busiest times of the year for the format. Like its other physical counterparts, vinyl and CD, the cassette is very much in demand at this time of year. Christmas is the time of giving, so its where the physical formats get to flex their muscle over the digital and streaming worlds. Anyone that loves music, or knows people that do, won't of missed the trickle of new music releases that have been landing since late October this year. Giving someone music for Christmas is still one of the best gifts that you can give. Not only do you hope its enjoyed, but subconsciously we must be hoping that the recipient gets to make some proper time to sit and listen to the music the way it was intended.
As a team we've been around the music industry all of our working lives and seen many changes during that period. Even as we write this Blog post, trends and tastes will be changing and evolving. But the constant, is the time of year, Christmas, the holiday season. For many, music is part and parcel of that season. Whether you'll be feet up with your family on Christmas Day or having to work...somewhere, somehow, music will likely have an influence. Music is the glue that binds the season together and the arrival of Christmas songs on the radio and shop speakers signals that the big day can't be far away. Christmas songs aren't for everyone, but love or hate them, you can't argue that they rule the playlist roost at this time of year.
In the last few weeks and in the ensuing weeks leading up to Christmas Day, we've seen and will be seeing a number of new music releases heading out on cassette that are destined for the ears of music lovers, whether as gifts for a friend or loved one, or simply for yourself. Artists and labels absolutely embrace the cassette and how personalised it can be made to look. We've seen so much more use of colour for the shell & case, and even more creativity for the on-body print/or label. This all speaks of a format loved for so many different reasons, but ultimately the cassette will continue to be one of the most flexible and accessible physical medias available.
However you consume your music over the next few weeks leading up to Christmas. we hope a cassette features somewhere and moreover that you're able to make time to really enjoy the sounds as they were intended.
Catch up soon.
